Accompanied by Gionni Di Clemente and Bruno Censori (guitars)

George Eliot Clarke is a Canadian poet and playwright whose work explores and chronicles the experience and history of the Black Canadian communities of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, creating a cultural geography referred to as Africadia. Clarke is a leading figure of the North America spoken poetry and an intellectual recognized internationally for his active role in fighting racism and segregation, acting for a more just, tolerant and free world.

* The Canadian Parliamentary Poet Laureate’s role is to encourage and promote the importance of literature, culture and language in Canadian society. Federal legislators created the position in 2001 to draw Canadians’ attention to poetry, both spoken and written, and its role in our lives.
