The Idea Behind

The University of Bologna is constantly seeking innovative ways to foster academic growth, interdisciplinary connections and global engagement: the Alma Mater University Chess Tournament, hosting 18 teams from some of the top universities around the world, represents a platform for cultural exchange and friendly competition.

Teams are mixed- gender and consist of four players (three students and one professor, or four students). Mixing members of teaching staff and students enriches student-professor and professor-professor interactions.

The competition is not FIDE-rated, underling its inclusive and friendly nature.
