Outreach Activities
To make the general public aware of the research activity going on within the HAP4MARBLE project, Dr. Sassoni has performed the following outreach activites so far:
- "Science is Wonder-ful!" (Brussels, B, 25-26 Sept 2018)
Together with Dr. Franzoni, Dr. Sassoni discussed the importance of cultural heritage preservation and presented the results of the HAP4MARBLE project to school children, who attended the "Science is Wonder-ful!" event, held at the Parlamentarium in Brussels (B) on Sept 25-26, 2018.
Dr. Sassoni was also interviewed by "Creative Europe". A recording of the interview can be watched here.
- ECSITE conference (Geneve, CH, 7-9 June 2018)
Together with 3 other MSC Fellows, Dr. Sassoni presented his own research and the funding opportunities offered by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions to the audience attending the ECSITE conference in Geneve (CH).
- "European Commission Open Doors" (Brussels, BE, May 5 2018)
On May 5 218, Dr. Sassoni took part in the inittiative "European Commission Open Doors" in Brussels, Belgium. The event, attracting some 10'000 visitors, is organized yearly by the Eurpean Commission to make the general public more aware of the European Union activities and projects.
He presented the research activity carried out within the HAP4MARBLE project and, in general, the funding opportunities offered by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions. He also discussed how the fellowship impacted his life, both scientifically and personally, during a "Mini Citizens' Dialogue", coordinated by Sophie Beernaerts, Head of Unit, DG Education, Youth, Sport and Culture.
A recording of the dialogue can be seen here.
- European Researchers' Night (Bologna, IT, Sept 29, 2017)
After the previous experience in 2016, Dr. Sassoni took part to the 2017 edition of the EU-funded event "La Notte dei Ricercatori" (Researchers' Night) in Bologna (IT), by organizing the initiative "A water drop hollows a stone… or not? New strategies for the conservation of decayed historical marbles thanks to the mineral constituting our teeth and bones", in collaboration with Dr. Franzoni and Dr. Graziani.
He guided about 30 people through the Monumental Cemetery in Bologna, showing significant cases of decayed marbles and explaining (also through on site demonstrations) that the new treatments developed within the HAP4MARBLE project have the potential to be the key for successful marble conservation.
- Presentation at the RILEM Spring Meeting 2017 in Detroit, USA (March 29, 2017)
Dr. Sassoni gave a lecture entitled "Phosphate-based treatments for stone conservation". A recording of the lecture can be watched here.
- Brow Bag Seminar (Princeton, USA, Feb 17, 2017)
Dr. Sassoni gave a seminar entitled "Can the mineral constituting our teeth and bones help us preserve our monuments?, to present the results of his research activity to the students and the faculty members of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) of Princeton University.
- Princeton University website (Feb 1, 2017)
A story about the research that Dr. Sassoni is carrying out in collaboration with Prof. George Scherer has been posted on the Princeton University website.
The story, by Jeanette Beebe for the Office of Engineering Communications, is entitled "Keeping it together: Invisible coating preserves iconic stone structures threatened by decay".
- PCCM Poster Night (Princeton NJ, USA, Oct 19 2016)
On October 19 2016, Dr. Sassoni took part to the initiative "PCCM Poster Night", organized by the Princeton Center for Complex Materials (PCCM). He contributed with his poster entitled "Conservation of marble artworks by hydroxyapatite", explaining the aims and the results obtained so far within the HAP4MARBLE project.
- European Researchers' Night (Bologna, IT, Sept 30 2016)
On September 30 2016, took part to the EU-funded event "La Notte dei Ricercatori" (Researchers' Night) by organizing the initiative "A water drop hollows a stone… or not? New strategies for the conservation of decayed historical marbles thanks to the mineral constituting our teeth and bones", in collaboration with Dr. Franzoni and Dr. Graziani.
He guided about 30 people through the Monumental Cemetery in Bologna, showing significant cases of decayed marbles and explaining (also through on site demonstrations) that the new treatments developed within the HAP4MARBLE project have the potential to be the key for successful marble conservation.
- Princeton Research Day (Princeton NJ, USA, May 5 2016)
On May 5 2016, Dr. Sassoni took part to the initiative "Princeton Research Day", aimed at sensitizing the general public about the research activity carried out at Princeton University by undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
On Princeton Research Day, Dr. Sassoni won the 2nd prize for the Best Poster in the category "Graduate Students/Postdoctoral Researchers" with his poster entitled "Can the mineral constituting our teeth and bones help us preserve our monuments? The HAP4MARBLE project" (on the left).
- PCCM Poster Night (Princeton NJ, USA, Nov 18 2015)
On November 18 2015, Dr. Sassoni took part to the initiative "PCCM Poster Night", organized by the Princeton Center for Complex Materials (PCCM). He contributed with his poster entitled "Multi-functionalization of hydroxyapatite for restoration and preventive conservation of marble artworks (HAP4MARBLE)", explaining the aims and structure of the HAP4MARBLE project.
